Drawing or photo to BOM to quotation in Zaptiz Electrical
Use Zaptiz Electrical's AI drawing and photo analysis to draft a panel BOM, review flagged lines, and turn the confirmed BOM into a GST quotation.
This guide shows how to turn a panel drawing or a photo of an existing panel into a reviewed bill of materials and a GST quotation in Zaptiz Electrical. The AI does the first pass of reading and matching. You review, correct and confirm. Nothing is priced or sent until you do.
Before you start
- Your catalogue should be in place. The AI matches components against your products, so import supplier price lists first. See Getting started with Zaptiz Electrical.
- Use PDF or image files. Drawing analysis reads PDFs and images. DWG and DXF files are not analysed; export them to PDF from your CAD tool first. A clean vector PDF generally reads better than a scan.
- Have AI credits available. Each analysis uses credits from your plan. The trial includes 10,000.
Choose your route
| You have | Use | Best for |
|---|---|---|
| A single-line or GA drawing | Drawing analyser | Consultant-specified panels |
| A photo of an existing panel | Photo analysis | Retrofits and replacements |
| A text enquiry, photo or drawing and want a full draft quote | Quote Studio | Fast first quotations |
| A drawing you want to measure and count on | Panel Design Studio | Larger or visual takeoffs |
Route A: from a drawing
1. Upload the drawing
Open the drawing analyser, ideally from the lead the enquiry belongs to so the drawing and BOM are filed against it. Upload the PDF or image.
2. Let the AI read it
The analyser lists the components it finds, with ratings and quantities, and compares each one with your catalogue. Every line is marked:
- Matched: a catalogue product was found that agrees with the component’s specification.
- Needs review: one or more candidates were found, but you need to choose. No product is attached until you do.
- No match: nothing suitable in your catalogue.
3. Review the flagged lines
This is the important step.
- Go through every needs review line and pick the right candidate, or search your catalogue for another.
- Check no match lines. Either link an existing product, add the product to your catalogue, or remove the line if it is not part of your scope.
- Spot-check a few matched lines, especially high-value items such as incomers, ACBs and meters.
- Confirm quantities. Watch for pole counts being read as quantities, for example “4P”.
4. Create the BOM
Select the lines you want to include and create the BOM. Then add enclosure, wiring, labour and other charges, and set your margin.
Route B: from a photo
- Upload a clear, well-lit photo of the panel, ideally straight on, with labels readable.
- Photo analysis produces a structured component list.
- Review the list against the photo and correct anything that is wrong or missing.
- Compare pricing across low, mid and premium brand tiers.
- Create a BOM from the tier you want to quote, or prepare more than one option for the customer.
Route C: Quote Studio
Quote Studio takes an enquiry as text, a photo or a drawing and produces a costed draft BOM and quotation together. It is the quickest way to a first draft. Review the draft BOM exactly as you would in Route A before you send anything.
Route D: Panel Design Studio
For larger panels, the Panel Design Studio lets you trace and measure on the drawing and count components with AI detection. When you are done, turn the takeoff into a BOM and continue as normal.
From BOM to quotation
- Open the confirmed BOM and create a quotation from it.
- Check that prices have come through from your price lists. If a supplier price has changed recently, update the price list first.
- Review per-line GST and HSN codes, and apply any line discounts.
- Confirm the customer’s GSTIN and state, which decide CGST and SGST or IGST.
- The missing-price guard warns you about any ₹0 lines before you print or email. Resolve them; do not send a quote with unpriced items.
- Choose a print layout and send the quotation by email or WhatsApp, or print it.
When the customer accepts, convert the quotation to a sales order. The BOM carries forward to purchase and production without being rebuilt.
Tips for better results
- Keep your catalogue tidy. Duplicate or vaguely named products produce more “needs review” lines.
- Keep supplier price lists current. Import new lists as soon as suppliers issue them.
- Use templates as a check. Comparing an AI-drafted BOM with the matching panel template is a quick way to spot something missing.
- Never skip review under deadline pressure. The AI reads what is on the drawing; it does not decide what the panel needs.
